How I rebound from long weekend festivities

This happens more than once a year, we get together with friends & family to eat delicious food and drink a copious amount of liquid calories. Did we fail? Have our summer goals diminished before even being started? Well, it depends, are these long weekend habits going to carry over to the rest of our week, month, year? Or, are we going to rebound back into a healthy routine and crush our goals.

The following are tips that I have used to rebound from long weekend benders and festivities. The key isn't to deprive yourself of everything you love, but you have to get yourself back on track soon as possible.

1. Intermittent Fasting

  • Intermittent fasting can have several benefits for your health, we will write a full blog on it at a later date. Today we will focus on using it to rebound out of a weekend full of festivities. We recommend you fast for 16 hours after your last holiday meal, therefore if you eat your last meal at 8 O'clock last night/tonight you won't be eating another meal until 12PM the next day. We recommend you do this for 1-2 after the festivities, this will help you fight cravings, reduce daily calorie intake, and get your clean eating habits back in order.

2. Natural Detox

  • Please don't go out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of detoxing teas and supplements, they have almost no benefits. Did you know your body actually detox's itself by doing the following;

1. Exercising

2. Eating whole foods

3. Drinking water

3. Hydration

We know after a night of heavy alcohol consumption we are dehydrated, but for those who don't consume alcohol do you notice how thirsty you are after consuming your weight in carbohydrates. This is because of a large number of carbohydrates you eat absorbs 3-4 grams of water per gram of carbohydrate. It's super important to stay hydrated after these festivities so make sure you're sipping on water constantly, it will help flush out toxins, aid in digestion, and fight gas induced bloating. 4. Plan

  • Planning ahead is one of the most important things you can do to better yourself for the future. When you plan ahead it's not only easier to reach your goals but you can map out exactly how you are going to reach them. One of my favorite parts of planning ahead is the fact you can visualize your success. I use google calendar to schedule every day and it has helped me tremendously.

5. Sleep

  • I try to put this in almost every other blog. We can't stress how important sleep is for your health, but make sure you're allowing yourself at least 8 hours of sleep per night. If you haven't read #TeamNoSleep Part 1 & Part 2 please make sure you do. Also, try the app sleep cycle if you're looking to track the quality of your self. There it is! This is how I rebound out of long weekend festivities and I am hoping you can execute these tips and get yourself back on track ASAP.
